HDCP Disabling in HDMI Settings

If you’re encountering Error (CE-108255-1) when using your external capture card to record gameplay, you can address the problem by removing HDCP in HDMI Settings.

HDCP will be meaningless to many individuals. Until recently, its existence is unlikely to have had any impact on them. However, if you intend to use your PS5 to record and share footage of your gaming escapades, HDCP will have an influence on you. So, here’s a quick rundown of everything you need to know about HDCP.

What is HDCP, and how does it work?

High-bandwidth digital copyright protection (HDCP) is an acronym for high-bandwidth digital copyright protection. As complicated as this may seem, it essentially prevents external devices from recording video from your PS5. The arguments for including such a feature are straightforward.

The PS5 is much more than a game console; it also has Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Disney Plus, among other media apps. If you were able to shoot video on the PS5 while using any of these apps, there would be an obvious problem. That’s why HDCP is included on your PS5.

The question of whether or not you should disable it is the subject of our next discussion.

Why would I want to disable HDCP?

Because HDCP is meant to prevent the video from being recorded, it will be a problem if you want to use a game capture device such as Elgato. To utilize this type of gadget and capture video, you’ll need to disable HDCP.

How can I turn off HDCP?

If you wish to disable HDCP, the procedure is straightforward:

  • Select System from the drop-down menu under Settings.
  • To receive a list of alternatives, select HDMI.
  • Hit the toggle next to Enable HDCP to disable HDCP.

You’ll be able to use game capture devices after that. However, you should be aware that it will block you from accessing many of the streaming services available on PS5. If necessary, you can switch between having it on and off.

Check to see if this approach has resolved PS5 Error (CE-108255-1). Otherwise, there’s only one more thing you can do.
